Thankful

Today I received some great news. After spending a great deal of money and enduring some time of uncertainty, I was granted an extension to my work visa. Now the wait continues for my Labor Certification to come through which hopefully will lead to my Permanent Residency here but it is time to celebrate God’s goodness.

I am very thankful to God for opening yet another door for me. He is such a faithful God and He has once again proved that He never fails. It has been a great growing experience for me in the last year or so. I have learnt to let go of things in my life and future that hindered me from wholly trusting Christ. I am now a testament of the things that God can do when I give Him control.

When I got the news this morning, one of the first scriptures that came to my mind was the passage from Psalm 37:3 – 5 where it reads:

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this

A lot of us are well versed with and often quote verse 4; which seems like an easy task to accomplish and maybe seem even a little selfish; because I definitely have desires, some well-intended and some more selfish. And delighting in the Lord seems pretty simple to do considering that according to scripture there is a reward for delighting in Him. I know the desires of my heart more often than not aren’t what I am supposed to have or should have. I am the type that usually has a plan in mind and also a back up plan if something should fail. I like to know what is going to happen to me even if it was bad – I just want to know. So in spite of me and all my selfish desires, He still allows good things to happen to me and that just blows my mind.

Once again all this does is prove that God is faithful and powerful. He blesses me in ways beyond comprehension and He opens doors like this for me. I am determined to continue to serve God and delight in Him not because of the benefits but because He deserves it. I am nothing without Him so why not give it all back to Him. As such I am constantly checking my motives for what I do in life to “delight” the Lord. I simply want to please Him and make Him known.

Be encouraged today and put your trust in the Lord because He is faithful. Live your life to please Him. Surround yourself with people who love and support you and will pray for you.

Let me end this with lyrics to one of my favorite Fred Hammond songs called “You Are My Song.” It is a song that expresses how I feel:

Lord I want to bless Your Name today because You're so good and You're so kind
I just have to say this one thing:

You are my symphony
Perfect in harmony

You are
You are my melody forever
That’s why I sing
You are my symphony

Perfect in harmony (You are in my life with Your word and You are)
You are my melody forever (that’s why I sing)

Lord no other song
No other song compares to You
No other praise
No other praise strong as You
Your Spirit
Your Spirit speaks to my soul
That’s why I sing
Lord You are my song

You're the tone of power
In the key of honor
Filled with glory
Lord You are my song
For Your endless mercy and Your loving kindness pull my heart strings daily
You are You are You are my song Lord
Lord You are my song
You're my symphony in harmony You are
Lord You are my song
For Your greatfulness is my homeness of the mercy
Lord You are my song

Hallelujah
