Family

I have been reflecting on this past Mothers' Day weekend and being away from my family, so I thought I would put some quick thoughts down.  I was also thinking about what Josh had talked about on Sunday morning and then I listened to a podcast of Pastor Brian from Hillsong Church from a previous week where he had his whole family share.  One of the things that Josh talked about that stuck with me is the idea of Heritage.  What is my heritage going to be like?  I began to wonder if there going to be people that I have encountered and/or invested in that would point back to me as being part of their spiritual heritage.  I have been trying to walk my life's journey more on the mission than I ever have before, so the whole idea of heritage resonates with me.  Then I started to think of my own heritage and the obvious link is my family.

My parents are pastors in Singapore and I have a sister, Heidi, who lives with her family (Allan, Amarise & Caelan) in New Zealand.  My parents are amazing people and I love them dearly.  They love Jesus and trust Him with everything they got and I want to be like that.  I am glad they have instilled in me a lot of life's principles that I will forever hold on to.  It was interesting to listen to the Houston family share their stories of growing up and their own spiritual journeys because they were very similar to mine.  I was relieved to hear that there were other pastor's kids out there who shared similar experiences.

Now our family has grown with the two kids, I started thinking about how I must do my part to provide them a Godly heritage.  It is going to be fun!  I thank God for family and even for my "extended" family here in Seattle.
