Freddy Pink

Friday night, I went to a Freddy Pink concert. My friend Kirk had invited me to come see them play. I have been associated with and have played with many of the guys from the rhythm section of this band. Kirk is currently the drummer for Freddy Pink. When I walked into the concert venue, I was pleasantly surprised to see another friend who was sitting in on guitar at this gig. His name is Fred Tibbets.

I have know Fred (or Brother Fred as his is affectionately known) for a few years now. We used to gig together quite a bit. Fred has an amazing testimony of how he became a Christ follower. Fred was the guitar player/road manager back in the day for Sly and the Family Stone. His musical resume is thoroughly impressive but what I like the most about Brother Fred is that he is not concerned about that. He told me on Friday that he was grateful for the gift of music and the ability to play but more importantly that he got to play for God. I am humbled and honored to have a friend like Brother Fred. One of the things that blew me away before I left for the night was when I told Brother Fred to continue to keep in touch and he said he would and he then repeated my phone number from memory! That meant a lot to me.

Another guy in the band that I had not seen in a while was Eric Popowicz. He is the keyboard/organ player in the band. I have also known Eric for a few years and have played with him. He is a very talented keyboard player. The first thing he said to me was "why haven't you called me?" I am always speechless why guys like Eric & Brother Fred, guys with that caliber of musical skills, are interested in playing with me. Eric is a good guy and he plays a mean B3 organ.

The concert was a blast and it was fun to listen to these cats play that funky music.

Hmm...good question Eric. For some reason I still don't have your email or phone number. Why don't you call or email me? :)
