Sunday Sunday Sunday

I like Sundays!  I particularly like waking up at 6 am but I do look forward to going to church in the mornings and being in community with other people.  This Sunday in particular was exciting for me because it was going to be somewhat of a reunion of sorts.  Josh was going to be gone this weekend climbing Mt. Baker; however, due to bad weather, his trip was postponed.  As such we had arranged for a guest speaker to come and share at our gathering.  The guest speaker was Jay Smith.  The 3 of us Js go back a long way and so it was fun to share this experience.  Jay did a excellent job communicating this morning and I know people were challenged in their faith journey.

Another part of this reunion was that I had my old worship band back together again.  It has been a very long time since we were on stage together, worshipping together.

I love playing with these guys!  They are good guys and good musicians.  I was excited to have them all together again today.  It was such a treat for me.

Tonight I got to go and watch one of my current favorite worship song writer in concert.  Brooke Fraser is writer of such songs as "None But Jesus" "Hosanna" "Take Me To The Cross".  My friend Jordan called me up about an hour before the show asking me to come because he had spare tickets.  I decided to go even though it was a late show (9 pm start) and I was definitely not disappointed.

The opening artist is a guy by the name of William Fitzsimmons.  He played an acoustic guitar and sang; and he did a good job and was entertaining to listen to.  Brooke came on around 10 pm and there was a good size crowd that had gathered to see her play.  I had only heard some of her solo music and was mostly unfamiliar with her stuff (except for the worship songs) so I was curious to hear her.  I was very impressed with the level of musicianship and quality of music that came from them.  She had a drummer and keyboard player, both of whom played multiple instruments and were good.  It was wonderful to go to a show like this and truly enjoy the simplicity of music and lyrics but at the same time be moved by the quality of it.  I recommended taking a listen to Brooke's music.
