Heidi’s Story

I received an email last night from my good friend, Heidi and I wanted to share it.  Here is her story:

“I want to share with you an incredible testimony of God's protection an grace, and to give God all the glory for saving my life!  I hope that it encourages you and reminds you that God has His guardian angels all around us.  Yesterday, on my way to work, I was in a really bad car accident.  We woke up to a Spring snow storm which dumped about 3 inches of slush on the highway.  I was driving about 50 mph on my way to work, when the slush took control of my tires and pulled me across the other lane, and into the ditch where I collided with a row of mailboxes and a street sign.  The mailboxes flipped my truck and spun me 15 feet into the air where I landed upside down against a tree, suspended by my seatbelt, surrounded by broken glass and mud.  Every window in the truck was broken.  Miraculously, I was OK.

As I was stuck, hanging upside down in the truck on the side of the highway, I began to panic thinking that the truck was going to crush down on top of me.  I was shaking with fear and praying that God would rescue me.  A few minutes later a woman came up to the truck, and saw me trapped inside.  She helped open the door and get me out of the truck.  She let me sit in her car until the ambulance arrived.  I felt like Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego walking out of the fire unharmed.  I was surrounded by glass and mud and walked away without a speck of glass or mud on me.  My purse, and even my wallet were filled with glass, and yet not one piece was on me!  What a miracle!!!  I just kept thanking God that Lacey and Gordon were not in the truck with me.  Randy's parents had come in town and had offered to watch the kids that morning.  Praise the Lord for his protection!!!

The first police officer to arrive was our friend from church, Chuck.  Even that was a blessing!  I was so worried about Randy not knowing what was happening with me, Chuck assured me that he would let Randy know and take care of him.  The ambulance arrived and strapped me down on a board and carried me into the ambulance.  They were concerned that with a crash that severe that I would have head trauma or have seriously injured my neck or back.  They were all amazed that I was OK.

Our Pastor, Gary Fox, met us at the hospital, he actually arrived before Randy or before the ambulance!  Chuck had called him to ask him to pray and Pastor immediately came.  I was in such tremendous shock, I couldn't stop crying and shaking.  Pastor laid his hand on my forehead and asked that God would surround me with his peace.  As soon as Pastor touched my head, my intense shaking stopped and I was surrounded with such a tangible and real peace, like a warm blanket.  At the hospital, they took some X-Rays and did an exam, only to find that I was OK!  No blood, breaks, or bruises.  I have whiplash, but that's all!  As we were waiting to be discharged from the hospital, our friend Chuck came to give us some paperwork from the accident.  He looked a little misty eyed as he touched my shoulder and said, "Heidi, God has a plan for your life and is not done with you yet, because you should not be here."  We all cried as we thought of how close I was to death, and how God's hand literally cocooned me from such a tragedy.  Today I am a little sore, but full of gratitude for God's abundant grace!

Today, we stopped by the wrecking yard to try and get a few personal items from the truck.  The owner of the lot was awestruck when we told him that I was driving the vehicle, he was sure that the driver had died in the crash.  As he watched me walk around the truck and take pictures, he was shaking his head in disbelief!  God is so good!  Seeing the truck filled Randy and I with awe at God's hand of protection.  As you can see from the pictures, it is a miracle that I am unharmed.  God is so faithful, and I hope that this testimony encourages you!  To God be all the glory!”

I was reading this morning in Psalm 144:3 (NIV):

O LORD, what is man that you care for him,
the son of man that you think of him?

King David was expressing his amazement at God’s hand upon his life – that God was concerned for a mere man like him.  God is so good and He is watching out for us.  Be encouraged today!

Here are the pictures from the accident:
