The Last 2 Days

Thursday was a pretty slow day. Dad and I hung out for a little bit in the morning as mum was at the church ministering to the elderly. We all then met up at the church and I decided to take the opportunity to have lunch with a childhood friend, Janet, who is also the worship pastor at the local church here. I really wanted to get a chance to encourage Janet and catch up with her. It was a good time.

After lunch, my parents were waiting for me, ready to head on home. We needed to get yet another "governmental" errand done - something to do with my social security here in Singapore. It was quite a process but we got it taken care off.

We headed home and mum cooked a great, but simple meal. Yum! We then had a short time before dad had a meeting at the church to attend to. So mum and I decided to go to the mall close to the church to hang out while dad was at the meeting. Unfortunately, the meeting went way longer than expected and my dad broke away from the meeting to come get us back to continue his meeting. It went on and on. We were a little upset since he was due to the hospital at 7:30 am the next morning and it was 11:45 pm! Mum decided to go into the meeting and remind them. Finally, we were out of the church close to midnight.

Needless to say, it was a short night. Friday came early. I actually got a call from Josh before my alarm went off. Perfect timing! It was great to catch up with Josh. I jumped into the shower and got ready to head out for the hospital.

The hospital experience was quite foreign. It had been a very long time since I had been in a hospital ward in Singapore. We got checked in and we found out the building number and which floor he was to be on. It was Building 4 and the 4th floor. The three of us chuckled when we heard that. The 4th floor was where the Cardiac ward was at. If one was a suspersitious Singaporean Chinese, the number 4 in Hokkien and Cantonese (our family's dialects) is death and/or dead. We were surprised that they even kept that floor for people with heart issues and possibly on the brink of death. Anyways, it was quite amusing to us.

We got to the room where my dad was to spend the night and it was quite depressing. I had forgotten how it felt and how it looked. He was sharing the room with 5 other men. Everyone was sitting around their beds or lying in it and just staring blankly. It was depressing. When we came in, everyone just kept staring at the 3 of us.

We had to wait for quite a while before they were ready to wheel my dad away for the first procedure which was the scoping. The doctors want to have a look at his heart and its condition. After they took him in, mum and I left the hospital and headed back to the church to rest a little. I then decided to make lunch plans with a good buddy of mine Shawn and his wife Eva. We headed to Chinatown for some tim-sum and it was great to catch up with them.

After lunch, we headed back to the hospital to try and catch my dad before he went in for the 2nd procedure which was the electric cardioversion - the "shocking" of the heart. We got there a little late and he was already taken away for the next procedure, so we decided to head to a closeby mall since I needed a dress shirt for a formal dinner we were to go to later that night. I had to represent my dad since he was not able to go. We quickly grabbed something and headed back to the hospital. By the time we go there, he was out of the procedure and recovering in the Critical Care Unit. We were allowed to go in and see him. By then he was already awake. We chatted with him and he said that he felt good and didn't have too much discomfort. Everything seemed to be normal but the doctors were obeserving his condition still. We are really thankful to the Lord for keeping my dad safe and making the procedure a success.

We are now about to leave to go pick him up at the hospital. We are hoping that the doctors will have some answers and more good reports.

We serve a mighty and faithful God. He is awesome!
