So, it's the end of the week; and that also means it is time to top up the old gas tank. I should have topped up a few days ago when I had a chance because the price of gas has gone up to an obscene amount.
$4.03++ a gallon for regular unleaded gas! What is wrong with this picture?? It didn't help that I was running low. Lame!
Ouch! This one hurt! What is going on? Make it stop! The interesting fact is, "life" is not exactly coming to a halt. Simple economics prevail - the concept of supply and demand. When there is a shortage and demand is great, prices go up. My life hasn't altered a whole lot, I still need to drive my car to get around. I think that is the same with many people. There will be a constant demand.
Being in the transportation industry, we have noticed an interesting phenomenon. A few years ago, when prices of fuel went up, commerce started to hurt because truckers will actually choosing to stop driving; they were losing so much revenue it was worth it just to let the truck sit. The main reason was because fuel surcharges were not in place then. That quickly changed. Fuel prices came down but the addition of fuel surcharges to transportation of goods was introduced. Businesses now had to factor in the fuel surcharge to their costs. As such, in our current situation, people are willing to pay the rising fuel surcharges to transport goods, which in turn raises the price of consumer products. And because goods are still being transported, there is a great demand for fuel and thus the price of fuel can keep rising.
I am curious to see how far this goes. In the meantime, the "hurt" keeps increasing. Ouch!
