The Conclusion of the Orlando 2006 Trip

On Friday, the team presented their drama one more time for the adjudicators for a chance to be awarded the merit. Present that morning for support were some members from Bethany Christian Assembly and 2 special guests, our network superintendant Les and his lovely wife Darice. There was a lot of excitment in the room and among the team.

As they started their presentation, they were cut off almost immediately because the adjudicators were not ready. So the team had to restart their presentation. They did a exceptional job and I am proud of them!

After the presentation, the team split up and some of us headed to Cocoa Beach and some headed to the Kennedy Space Center (NASA). It was really our first chance to do something touristy and we were excited. Doug and I took the team that headed to the beach and Mercy took the other team to the Space Center.

It was quite an adventure for our group. The drive was about an hour to the beach. The beach is located at Cape Canaveral (Port Canaveral) which incidently is rather close to the Kennedy Space Center. The beach area is very rustic and unkept. It was a hot day but we were determined to play in the water and get to lay out in the sun. The sand was scalding hot - haven't really experienced such a feeling. We lasted about 2 hours at the beach and we were ready to go. Our next stop was the Ron Jon Surf Shop. This is one massive place, open 24 hours, that sells all kinds of stuff relating to surfing and the beach. It was a blast.

Our adventure continued when we started headed towards home. We thought we headed the same way we came but that was not the case. Somehow, we got "lost" and landed 1/2 hour north of where we were supposed to be. But it was still a fun experience!

The teams finally met up at the end of the day to go to the presentation service together. We got to see the quality of the presentations by the merit winners. Then came time to announce the merit winner for Large Drama Group. They listed the top 3 winners and unfortunately we were not on that list. The team was a little disappointed but soon got over it. We were still ranked among the top in the nation and that is quite an achievement!

The time came for us to head out of the convention center one last time on this trip. We were off again to McDonald's for another round of ice-cream cones courtesy of Mercy again. It was a great way to cap off the night.

When we returned to the condos, we decided that we would sleep in on Saturday. We only had two things on the agenda to do on Saturday, one was to take Becca and Marsha to the airport for their trip home and then do something fun for the rest of the remaining team.

Saturday came quickly and it was really nice to sleep in. Doug and I just lazed around after waking up. I was actually "served" breakfast in bed - it was a nice treat. We hung around the condos till it was time to head to the airport. We said our goodbyes and took the girls to the airport.

We then had to decide what to do with ourselves for the rest of the day before our flight early the next morning. It was one of the most painful experiences we had all week. We all couldn't decide what to do. Finally after deliberating for an eternity, we decided to head to Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum.

After the museum, we headed to Starbucks for a little break. It was definitely a welcomed break. Doug managed to get us comp tickets for a tall drink. Go Doug, work that magic! After Starbucks, it was time for dinner. We head to Universal City Walk for dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. We spent the next few hours taking pictures and eating at Universal. It was a nice way to end our trip.

We headed back to the condos to rest a little before taking off for the airport at 3:15 am (EST).
