October

The month of October is always special to me and I think it is because my birthday is in October. My birthday was quite different this year. For the first time in many years, I was actually in town and I didn't have much going on. It was quite a strange feeling.

This year my birthday fell on a Saturday which meant I had an entire weekend to "celebrate." I am very blessed - I have wonderful friends who mean a lot to me and its great to spend time with them. Aik, Lily & Janelle helped me kick off the weekend. We had dinner at our favorite Korean restaurant on Friday night and we stuffed overselves. It was good. I got to retire for evening somewhat early which was great because I was looking forward to catching up on some Zs. I did, however, have a suspicion that I was going to start receiving phone calls and text messages early in the morning (since I have good friends and family in another part of the world).

True enough, birthday morning came quite quickly and so did the messages and calls. I tried my best to lay in bed and enjoy the morning under the sheets. I finally got my butt out of bed, because I really needed to run an errand. I then headed out to look for and purchase a new bed for my guest room. That was quite an adventure. It is not easy finding a bed. Trying to find a comfortable bed lying on sample beds with people watching you. I have strange experiences "testing" beds (with Aik). Anways, I finally settled on one and to my surprise they were willing to deliver that same day for free. It was a nice birthday treat.

So, I went home and waited for the delivery guys to show. They finally came and I got the bed set up. I was excited about the evening that was about to unfold. Aik, Lily & Janelle were coming over for dinner. I was quite sure what they had in mind but I knew it would be fun especially if Iron Chef Chen was in the house. That night we had a wonderful spread of what we call "Steam Boat." It is similar to fondue with broth and different ingredients you cook in it. Man! We ate a lot!

The Chens had quite a bit planned that night. After dinner, we had my favorite Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, Godiva Chocolate, for my birthday cake. YUM! It was so rich but oh so good! Janelle and I got to blow out the candles. To my surprise we weren't done yet. Aik and Lily had brought "materials" to make another of my favorite Pineapple Tarts. If you haven't picked up the theme, Eating is a Singporean past time.

It was an awesome evening and I really appreciate the Chens for spending it with me.

After a fun night, I had to get ready for the next day. It was Sunday and I was excited because the new church plant Life At The Ridge was having its 2nd weekly morning gathering and it was my first time being a part of it. I was gone the previous weekend to Colorado Springs. It was a great morning at church and such an excitement to see what God has in store for His church.

Lunch plans were already made. Lindsey had put together a lunch "party" to celebrate Craig and my birthday. It was awesome treat to be some of my closest friends sharing the special day. We had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. Good food!

What an awesome and memorable weekend! I am thankful!
