It was a short night for me. I am still adjusting to the time difference, the bed, the constant traffic on the streets even early into the morning. So I was ready to go pretty early today.
Started the day walking with my parents to have breakfast at a local neighborhood store. I had me a Roti Prata (a delicious Asian pancake). It hit the spot! After breakfast, my mum and I headed to a local bank to start up a joint savings account. I don't have one here in Singapore but with a lot of new government changes, I need one for monetary purposes. Going to the bank was quite a crazy experience. The bank was jam packed with people waiting in line in a very tiny lobby area. Needless to say it was quite a long wait.
I started to make a strange observation about the day. There were a lot of people everywhere just chilling, eating, standing in line at the bank. It was a Tuesday morning, a work day, so don't people here work? It was strange.
After the bank we went home to meet up with my dad and we headed out to Vivo City. A brand new mall (close to the hospital actually). It was yet again full of people at the noon hour. School's out so understandably there were students everywhere but what was puzzling were the adults shopping and walking around.
It was fun just to walk around with my parents and just hanging out. Went to my dad's favorite electronic/gadget store where he told me that he was a member there. He is more of a geek than I am! I looked at cellphones of course.
After a couple of hours walking around, we headed to the hospital. There was something that didn't seem right to me when I was trying to inquire about the procedure my dad was to undergo. First was that fact that my parents really didn't have any idea what was going to be done except that something was going to be stuck down my dad's throat. The other thing was that was no instructions on what should be done to prep for a procedure like that. Based on my experience with the Barium test, I knew that if a procedure was to be done through the mouth, you were not allow to consume food and water for a period of time before. My dad had breakfast and lunch shortly before.
When we got to the Heart Center wing of the hospital, they told my dad to go through his regular routine of taking his blood for a test before seeing the doctor. We were puzzled because if he was to be having a procedure done, he would have been asked to begin the admission process. So for the next few hours, we discoverd that the doctor had somehow managed to forget that they agreed to do the procedure that day. She then told us it was to be done on Friday morning and my dad was to abstain from food and water at a certain time. Finally, something that sounded logical! It was a little frustrating! Thankfully the procedure wasn't postponed to too much later and I was going to be still here to support them.
After the hospital, we headed home and I took a short nap since I was fading fast. We also made arrangements to have dinner with my cousin Steven and his family. We had some yummy chicken rice and some other stuff. It was a good night. I was hoping to stay up longer after dinner to try and get adjusted but my body said no. I couldn't keep my eyes open. I decided to make a few phone calls and let some of my friends know I was in town since I have kept this trip on the DL. Then it was night night time.
